O corpo de Celso foi encontrado na Rua Antônio Siqueira, no bairro Beira Mar, apresentando múltiplos ferimentos de arma branca no pescoço, tórax e regiões íntimas. Próximo ao cadáver, havia uma placa com a inscrição: “Estuprador pega gringa”. Josefa, conhecida pelos apelidos “Gringa” e “Cigana”, acusou a vítima de abuso de crianças, embora não tenha detalhes ou evidências fornecidas sobre essas alegações.
